TOUR ITINERARY
Day 1: Arrival – Negombo
Your Chauffer will pick you at the Bandaranaike International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Negombo which is 6 km from the Airport.
Negombo has a fascinating and picturesque beachfront and a place strongly influenced by the Catholic Church. The Negombo lagoon is famous for its harvest of lobsters, crabs and prawns and fish auctions on the beach that are worth a look. Check at your hotel in Negombo for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Negombo – Puttalam
After the breakfast at the Hotel, you will be transferred to Puttalam via Chilaw. If the time permits you will be able to visit Munneshwaram Kovil in Chilaw, where you will witness how devotees pay respect to their god.
Proceed to Puttalam and check in at your hotel. In the evening you are free to walk to the lagoon just few minutes’ walk from the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay at your hotel in Puttalam.
Day 3: Puttalam
After breakfast we will leave for Sirambadiya to visit a rural village of Kaffirs; a small community of African Sri Lankans who are descendants of slaves that were brought into the island by Portuguese colonists in the 17th century.
Your whole day will be spent with them. You will be able to meet and talk to their elderly people. Not only meet people, but also to experience their traditional cultural items will be another unique experience in your tour. Their cultural heritage includes the dance styles Kaffringna and Manja and their popular form of dance music Baila.
Back to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Puttalam – Kandy
Leave for a boat ride to watch Dolphins in the sea off Alankuda. The season for viewing Dolphins are from November to April and the view of hundreds of Dolphins are guaranteed. This is an optional activity where you will be able skip Dolphin Watching and proceed with our usual arrangements. Our day’s destination is Kandy where you will be transferred to after having your breakfast. Upon your arrival at Kandy, you will be checked in at your hotel in the Kandy itself and you will be taken around Kandy City.
The highlight of your city tour is Temple of Sacred Tooth Relic Lord Buddha, which is the top venerated place to the Buddhist in the Country. An annual pageant called Kandy Esala Perehera will be held in July/ August in respect of Sacred Tooth Relic. This is very famous among the tourists as one of the most colourful pageants in the world. After the city tour we will go for a cultural performance to witness cultural dance.
Back to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Kandy – Meemure
Leave for Knuckles Meemure after having breakfast at your hotel in Kandy. We will check in at a campsite in Knuckles for Lunch.
After enjoying a Sri Lankan lunch at the campsite, you will be free to go for a nature trail in the vicinity of the campsite. Dinner and overnight stay at your campsite at Meemure Village.
Day 6: Meemure
Your wakeup call of the day will the chirps of the birds in and around the campsite. After breakfast we will leave for a village tour to Meemure village to experience a different lifestyle of the people in Meemure.
Indigenous community in this area has always interacted with and depended upon the Knuckles Frosts and this association goes as far back as prehistoric times. The day-to-day lifestyle of this community are very simple and their main income generating sources are farming, cultivation of Paddy, and Chaina, and Cardamom. These villagers relay on cattle for transporting good between villages and sub-urban areas and this is referred as Pack Ox (Thawalam). The traditional villagers in this area maintain the rich cultural diversity associated with unique natural landscape of Knuckles.
Back to the campsite. Enjoy a hearty BBQ dinner under millions of stars at your campsite and overnight stay at your campsite at Meemure Village.
Day 7: Meemure – Mahiyangana
After the breakfast at the campsite in Meemure, we will leave for Dambana to meet another set of indigenous community called “Vedda”. Human remains in Sri Lanka dating from as early as 18,000 BC show a genetic continuum with present-day Veddas. According to the ancient chronicle of Sinhalese royalty, the Mahavansa, the Pulindas (Veddhas) are descended from Prince Vijaya (6th – 5th century BC), the founding father of the Sinhalese nation, through Kuveni, a woman of the “Yakkha” clan whom he had espoused.
You will be able to experience their way of hunting, how to set the trap to catch animals, their traditional dances etc… while on your visit to Dambana Vedda Village. Check in at a hotel in Mahiyangana for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 8: Mahiyangana – Nuwara Eliya
After the breakfast at the hotel, proceed to Nuwara Eliya which is the coolest town in the Hill Country. Today’s journey will be an amazing journey where you will be taken through misty mountains covered with scenic tea bushes. Check in at Avian Breeze in Nuwara Eliya.
You will be able to go for a walk in the Town in the evening to interact with the different cultured people in the town. The majority will be Tamils and you get Sinhalese and Muslims as well. A visit to a barrack type tea plantation houses in Nuwara Eliya will be another unique experience in your trip to Sri Lanka. Back to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 9: Nuwara Eliya – Belihuloya
Get up early in the morning and proceed to Belihuloya via Horton Plains with a packed breakfast. Horton Plains is the National Park the highest elevated national park in Sri Lanka and the only park in which the walking inside is allowed. It is believed that there were thousands of Elephants in Horton Plains and all of them were hunted during the colonial period. After the nature walk at Horton Plains, we will proceed to Belihuloya.
In the evening we will go for a Mountain Biking Trail to experience the village life of the people living in this area. The ancient villagers are blacksmiths in this village and nowadays most of them have switched to new different fields and modernized. But still their hospitality remains with the current people where you will be able to visit a village house and sip a cup of herbal drink along with traditional Sri Lankan sweet meats. Back to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 10: Belihuloya – Tangalle
Leave for Tangalle after enjoying the breakfast at your hotel in Belihuloya. Tangalle is a fishing town in the southern tip of Sri Lanka. Famous turtle sanctuary called ‘Rekawa Turtle Sanctuary’ is just half and hour’s drive from Tangalle where you will be able to witness turtles coming to the shore to lay eggs at night.
In the evening we will visit the fishing villages in and around Tangalle to participate their fishing activities. Back to the hotel for dinner and you have the option of visiting Rekawa Turtle Sanctuary to witness the turtles laying eggs in the beach. Overnight stay at your hotel in Tangalle.
Day 11: Tangalle- Bentota
Proceed to Bentota via Galle after having breakfast at your hotel in Tangalle. We stop at Galle to visit famed Galle Fort; UNESCO world heritage site which is a historical, archaeological and architectural heritage monument aged more than 425 years. Today Galle Fort has a multi-ethnic and multi-religious population which enables you to meet different cultured people.
The Sri Lankan government and many Dutch people who still own some of the properties inside the fort are looking at making this one of the modern wonders of the world. The lunch could be taken in a restaurant in the Galle Fort itself. Proceed to Bentota and check in at your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 12: Bentota – Madu River Excursion
Today is your rest day, but in the morning you will be taken on a boat ride in Maduganga River Wetland which consists of 60+ mangrove islets and islands in which people live. The boat ride will take you along mangrove caves and the cinnamon island will be another highlight where you will be able to witness the peeling of cinnamon.
The fish massage is another highlight where you will be able have a foot massage by fish. The two islands with temples enable you to experience different Buddhist cultures. Back to the hotel after the boat ride and evening at leisure on the beach. Dinner and overnight stay at your hotel in Bentota.
Day 13: Bentota – Colombo
After breakfast at Bentota, you will be transferred to Colombo. Check in at your hotel in Colombo and get ready for the shopping and city tour in the commercial capital of Sri Lanka.
You will be taken around the city and you will be able to buy some souvenirs to your loved ones. Dinner could be taken in a restaurant in Colombo and back to the hotel for overnight stay.
Day 14: : Colombo – Departure
After breakfast at hotel in Colombo, you will be transferred to Bandaranaike International Airport to connect the departure flight.
